Our speaker this past week was Club member Paul Moss, Location Manager for Babione-Kraeer Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Boca Raton.

Since the late 1990s, Paul has provided comfort to families in Palm Beach County through the funeral home business.

Paul was born and raised in New Brunswick, Canada. He came to Boca Raton to attend Lynn University where he earned a degree in mortuary science. After working many years in the West Palm Beach area, Paul became Location Manager with the Dignity Memorial network, one of the largest networks of funeral homes in the United States.

Paul is engaged to be married to his longtime girlfriend Sophie (who is also a funeral director). Paul has two boys from a previous marriage. When he is not working, Paul finds time to be involved in his sons’ sporting activities and the Boy Scouts.
Paul shared that the funeral home business has changed tremendously in the past 20 or so years. It used to be that most people paid for a casket, had viewings and then did a service at a cemetery for the remains to be buried followed by a reception. Today, most people are cremated and choose Celebration of Life services. Church funeral services have been replaced by families opting to hold a service at the funeral home followed by a reception with catered food and an open bar.
Some people do arrange to have a burial at sea if the deceased had a significant interest or working in the marine business.
Paul left us with one final thought: “I am a pretty nice guy… I will be the last to let you down.”
