The 2019 Pirate Invasion 5-10K is a milestone for The Rotary Club of Boca Raton.  This will mark the 25thanniversary for the club in sponsoring and coordinating a running event in Boca Raton.

For 20 years, from 1988 through 2007, The Rotary Club of Boca Raton, sponsored the annual DARE Run with the Boca Raton Police Department.  Each year the event was held at Spanish River Park except 2006 when the run was moved to Town Center Mall due to storm damage at the park.  All of the proceeds from these events went to the DARE program.  The DARE program provided education and interactive programs to middle school students in the City of Boca Raton.  Taught by uniformed police officers, the programs were directed to stemming drug use, gangs and intimidation/bullying.

Soon after the 2007 event, the DARE program was cancelled, due to budget cuts, and the run stayed dormant until 2015.  In 2015, The Rotary Club of Boca Raton, was asked to jointly sponsor the event with the YMCA of South Palm Beach County.  The event was the Healthy Heart Run which was held in 2015 and 2016.  The 2017 Healthy Heart Run was jointly sponsored by The Rotary Club of Boca Raton and Promise Healthcare.  All proceeds went to The Rotary Club of Boca Raton for their community programs.

In 2018, The Rotary Club of Boca Raton jointly sponsored the “Giving Kids a Running Start” 5-10K with the Florence Fuller Child Development Center.  Our collaboration continues with Florence Fuller in 2019 with the Pirate Invasion 5-10K.  All proceeds from the run are used to fund the organizations community programs.
