OPAL – Outstanding People and Leaders is an annual Red-carpet Gala held every year for the past 21 years by the RCBR, honoring citizens from Boca Raton who have demonstrated an on-going commitment to serve our city through philanthropic, professional leadership, education, civil, community and medical service endeavors. This Gala has grown to become the signature event for Boca Raton’s philanthropic community and the RCBR.
Surrounded by most elegant black-tie attire and sophisticated décor, the atmosphere is simply magnificent and quite breathtaking. The evening introduces appetizing House de jour with live music and a silent auction that includes a wide variety of stylish and much desired gifts. The three-course delectable dinner is tastefuly selected by the chef to appetize even the most extravagant of tastes.
The program includes a list of past award winners which is truly a “who’s who” of the most impressive and warm-hearted individuals our community has to offer. These individuals are the reason why Boca Raton is such a remarkable place to live, work and raise a family. More importantly, over the years OPAL has raised over $1.4 million and empowered over 350 high-achieving, disadvantaged local students with financial assistance through our scholarship program. This was made possible as a result of the generosity of the esteemed Honorees, guests and participants and those students were able to pursue careers of their choice and change the outcome of their futures.
At the annual event we have the chance to present past OPAL Honorees, community partners and leaders such as: Count and Countess de Hoernle, Eugene and Christine Lynn, Dr. Ira Gelb, Ben and Rosemary Krieger, Dr. Dennis Frisch, Dr. Geoff McKee, Jerry Fedele, Marta Batmasian, Flossy Keesley, Jay DiPietro, Rick Zimmer, Irving Gutin, Gary Peters, Howard and Karen Weiss, Ron Gallatan, Jay and Marilyn Weinberg, Dr. John Kelly, Dr. Kathy Schillinh, Bill Allen, Arthur Adler, Peter and Carmel Baronoff, Frank and Laura Frione, Jerry and Joan Glassman, Bill and Bernie Marcus, Bill Mitchel, and the respected list goes on and on.
The Rotarians believe that helping and giving is part of human nature. Only those who have never been to OPAL have missed the opportunity to see those touching and inspiring moments of that phenomenal human nature in action. It is an extraordinary night in many ways, and we promise, A night you will never forget!
