American Association of Caregiving Youth (AACY) is a:
- Florida based non-profit corporation established in 1998
- The only organization in the US dedicated solely to addressing caregiving youth issues
- Created affiliate model
- Established the Caregiving Youth Institute in 2014
Caregiving Youth Project (CYP)
- Launched in one middle school in 2006
- Supports youth caregivers in school, out of school & at home
- Brings together healthcare, education, and the community
- Works in formal partnership with schools
- Collaborates with many organizations
Trends creating the need for care giving youth:
- Population changes
- Technological advances in home care
- Managed care
- Uninsured
- More women working
- More single parent households
- Grandparents raising grandchildren
Comprehensive CYP Services:
- In School – Skills-Building groups, Lunch and Learn sessions
- At Home – linking families with resources, providing computers, tutoring, respite, food, and solutions for special projects
- Out of School – overnight camp, fishing, dining, educational and fun activities
