We were delighted to induct three new members to our Club: Club President Julie Vianale welcomed Ken Jarvis (nominated by Gerry Purdy), Dr. Chad Lalsingh (nominated by Steve Clarfield) and Dr. Sandy Burkart (nominated by Chris Manners). Here is a short biographical sketch of each new member.
Ken Jarvis
Ken was born in the UK but grew up in South Africa. He came to the US five years ago. He is CEO of two IT services firms (Intenda and Magic Orange). He has been married to his wife Linda for 42 years and they have two daughters (one in Boca and one on London UK) and three grandchildren. Ken says the best kept secret of America is Hockey and he is an avid Florida Panthers supporter.
Dr. Chad Lalsing
Dr. Lalsingh is a graduate of the University of Rochester, one of the most prestigious periodontal programs in the World, Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and received his undergraduate degree from Boston College.
Dr. Lalsingh is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology having undergone testing of the highest level from some of the most esteemed periodontists in the country.
Chad grew up on the island of St. Lucia and his father was a member of the Rotary Club of St. Lucia until recently when he and Chad’s mother retired to Delray beach. Chad is married to Olivia whom he met at Boston College, and they have been married for 21 years. Chad and Olivia have two daughters, Ava (15) and Kaila (13). Chad is a former member and president of the Rotary Club of Boca Raton Central.
Dr. Sandy Burkart
Sandy L Burkart PT, OCS, PhD is a retired West Virginia University Professor and Chairman of Physical Therapy. He is an Orthopaedic Certified Specialist in private practice with the Palm Beach Institute of Sports Medicine and is a teacher and consultant with Functional Rehabilitation Associates.
He received his Physical Therapy degree in 1967 from the University of Pennsylvania, his Ph.D. in Anatomy from West Virginia University 1977, and his Feldenkrais certification in 1991. Dr. Burkart was certified by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties as an Orthopaedic Certified Specialist in 2006.
Dr. Burkart is a recognized national and international speaker, having delivered more then 400 workshops, presentations, and teleconferences nationally and around the world on orthopedic and neurologic rehabilitation, functional training and rehabilitation, manual therapy and the theory and application of the Feldenkrais Method®. Dr. Burkart has been honored for his teaching excellence by the American Physical Therapy Association’s Section on Orthopaedic Physical Therapy.
Dr. Burkart has been a Rotarian since 1990 and has been actively involved in Rotary Youth Exchanges, having hosted 40 youth and adult international exchanges. He has participated in numerous Rotary International Rotary Service projects including a water project in Guatemala, the purchase of pediatric surgery instruments for St Anne’s Hospital in Zimbabwe, the building of a school in Swaziland, the funding of an educational media center in a Chinese orphanage and raising college tuition for a special needs child from Guatemala. In addition, he has taught and facilitated other Rotarians to develop their own international projects.
In his talk on Wednesday, Dr. Burkart will discuss a recent District Rotary Peace Initiative Project in Sierra Leone. Club member Lisa Talley will join in the talk.
