Gary introduced Megan Enriquez in whom we sponsored her attendance to the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA) program. Here is Megan’s recap of her attendance and then how she put the new skills to work:
“I would like to thank the Rotary Club of Boca Raton for sponsoring me at RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Academy) this past November through my membership on the Dirty Mechanics Robotics Team.
“Being a part of RYLA has been life-changing for me and I find it important to show my gratitude for all of the members who helped sponsor my attendance and give back in any way possible. Since this experience, I’ve been inspired to take on more leadership roles in serving our community.
“This March, I founded PERIOD at Boca Raton. Our mission is to help end period poverty and stigma through service, education, and advocacy. Our team is comprised of over a dozen high school students and in the past four months, we have distributed over 30,000 feminine hygiene products serving over 2,000 periods through our nearly a dozen local nonprofit service partners.
“The lessons I’ve learned at the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards have given me the tools I needed to make this project a success. I utilize the 7 Habits we learned at RYLA to accomplish my goals while aiming to do what’s best for everyone. Additionally, our lessons in public speaking helped me feel comfortable sharing my story and connecting with new people to synergize!”
