We were delighted to have PBSC student Sara Murillo as a guest speaker. Sara is a first-generation student to go to college in her family. She came from Colombia to the US when she was eight years old. She found that the best way to learn English was to look at a cartoon channel broadcast in English and then flip to the same channel that was broadcast in Spanish: “Oh, that’s what they mean.” She found it difficult to assimilate into the US because she didn’t understand the culture. Valerie Dutreuil, Rotary Scholarship Recipient on Her Way to Becoming a Epidemiologist

Valerie L. Dutreuil received a Rotary Club Scholarship in 2013. She graduated Florida Atlantic University in 2017 with a B.S. She is currently pursuing her masters in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Boston University School of Public Health.  She is also a research assistant at Boston University where she is working on a grant for Dr. Harlow to determine whether women with immune system disorders or acute conditions that affect immune system will be more at risk in experiencing chronic vulvar pain. Kerri Cassedy is 24 years old. She went from dealing with unstable environments and unpredictable situations to putting herself through college and supporting herself independently. Rotary Scholarship Grant to Palm Beach State College to Underwrite Special Vocational Careers

The Club Board recently decided to provide designated support at Palm Beach State College (PBSC) for three vocational programs:   •                     Heating and AC (HVAC) •                     Marine Serving Technology •                     Auto Mechanic   This designated grant is part of the Club’s overall grant supporting new and continuing students.
