The Rotary Club of Boca Raton is sad to announce that OPAL Honoree John Ellsworth Shuff passed away this past Monday, June 29, 2020 in Boca Raton, after complications from surgery. His wife, Margaret Mary Shuff, was by his side—as she has been for the last 57 years.
After being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1975, John and Margaret relocated from Manhattan to flourishing Boca Raton and launched JES Publishing and the now familiar Boca Raton magazine. Readers will especially miss his longtime “My Turn” columns in which he talked about family, community, friends and life in general.
Throughout their lives together, the Shuff’s understood the value of volunteerism and community involvement. The Shuff’s were recognized by the Rotary Club of Boca Raton as distinguished OPAL Honorees and members of the OPAL Society for their great human kindness and true compassion for others. John’s leadership and generous support has helped build a better and stronger community through his generous support of education for today and for future generations. John served on the Board of the Boca Raton Community Hospital, the Boca Raton Museum of Art and was a founding force with the first Boca Raton Symphony Orchestra.
Members of The Rotary Club of Boca Raton joins the entire community in extending our deepest sympathy to John’s wife, Margaret Mary, and his loved ones.
