When the City of Boca Raton authorized the new construction of the Downtown Library Facility in 2011, the Rotary Club of Boca Raton recognized this as an opportunity to advance the cause of literacy, one of the principle mission objectives of Rotary International.
At the groundbreaking for the new library branch in April 2012, the RCBR pledged to raise $50,000.00 toward the project.
While monitoring the progress of the new library branch development, Rotary members developed a plan to create a legacy project within the new facility. Using the creativity of Club Members to achieve unique and useful community assets for the benefit of the citizens, the group launched a Capital Accumulation Program to fund a Rotary Children’s Reading Room.
Club Members worked with the Library staff, City officials and designers to create a dedicated section of the library, exclusively for children’s reading and literacy advancement events. The Library Team was eager to support the effort and received a grant of $50,000.00, raised through a flurry of rotary planned events.
The major gift from The Rotary Club of Boca Raton was one of the largest private donations toward the completion of the 42,000 s.f. beautiful and modern, Addison Mizner style, Downtown Library Branch. The Reading Room Facility is located to the left, just inside the main entrance and is identified by the Club’s Signature Logs on the glass entrance wall, with our motto “Change Lives, Building Futures”.
